BSP unveils Asean 2026, festivals commemorative coins
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) unveiled new commemorative coins to celebrate the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, as well as raise public awareness and foster greater interest in the country’s role as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit chair in 2026.
In a ceremony held on Nov. 26 at Malacañang, BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. presented the “Pista sa Pilipinas: 100-Piso Philippine Festivals Commemorative Silver Coin Series” and the “10-Piso Asean Coin” to President Marcos.
The coins will be released next year.
Commemorative coins often differ in size from ordinary circulation pieces. They are minted to honor a historic figure or to mark the significance of a place or event in history.
Many are minted in precious metals such as gold and silver, lending them a rarer and costlier character.
The P10 Asean coin features the Asean 2026 logo, which incorporates a woven pattern, rice stalks, waves and a balangay boat.
It includes a scannable QR code linking to information about the country’s role as 2026 Asean Summit chair.
