DPWH lists affected areas in Edsa rehab
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has advised motorists to keep track of areas affected by the rehabilitation of Edsa, which started at 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
From Dec. 24 until Jan. 5 next year, work on Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare will be conducted around the clock. But starting Jan. 6 until May 31, rehabilitation efforts will be done over just a six-hour period—from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.—with the affected portion to be opened to the public at 5 a.m.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, the DPWH Metro Manila office listed the following areas where concrete reblocking will take place from Dec. 28 to Jan. 5.
On the northbound side: Roxas Boulevard Heritage Hotel to Sgt. Mariano; Park Avenue to Edsa Orense (inner lane); and selected parts of Edsa from Orense to Shell Mckinley.
On the southbound side: Edsa corner Taft Avenue to FB Harrison; near HomeExpo Building Depot (outer lane) to P. Celle Street; and along Ayala Underpass Exit to San Lorenzo Village.
Asphalt overlay
On the other hand, asphalt overlaying will be done in the following areas, based on the schedule below, on the northbound lane of Edsa:
Dec. 28 to Jan. 5: Tramo to E. Rodriguez (inner lane to outer lane); Dec. 29 to Jan. 5: E. Rodriguez to Kalayaan Avenue (inner lane to outer lane).
Dec. 31 to Jan. 5: Roxas Boulevard to FB Harrison (inner lane to outer lane); Jan. 1 to Jan. 5: FB Harrison to Tramo Bus Station (inner lane); and
Jan. 2 to Jan. 5: Ayala Underpass to Urdaneta Subdivision (inner lane to outer lane).
On the southbound side, asphalt overlaying will be conducted in the following areas, according to the schedule below:
Dec. 30 to Jan. 5: Loring Street to Roxas Boulevard (inner lane to outer lane); Jan. 1 to Jan. 5: From Ayala Underpass to Tramo Bus Station (inner lane); and Jan. 3 to Jan. 5: Palm Drive to Ayala Underpass (inner lane to outer lane).
The DPWH advised motorists to take alternative routes to avoid being inconvenienced.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon earlier said that all reblocking works and asphalt overlay of busway lanes will be conducted around the clock during the holiday break, or from 11 p.m. on Dec. 24 until 4 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2026.
Shorter work schedule
After Jan. 5, road rehabilitation work will take place only between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. The affected portion of Edsa will then be opened to the public at 5 a.m. onward.
From Monday to Friday onward until May 31, asphalt overlaying will be conducted lane by lane (northbound and southbound). On the other hand, from Friday to Sunday, asphalt overlaying and reblocking will be done on just one lane each, on both the northbound and southbound sides of Edsa.
Dizon said the rehabilitation of Edsa will take only eight months, shorter than the previous plan that had a two-year timetable.
