BIZ BUZZ: MIC bets on intelligent capital for 2026

Nyah Genelle C. De Leon

Maharlika Investment Corp. (MIC) is putting its money where the bottlenecks are—energy, logistics, agriculture and mining.

This year, the manager of the country’s sovereign wealth fund is banking on “intelligent investing” as a growth engine, hoping to turn strategic bets into a “more diversified and resilient Philippine economy.”

For one, MIC is looking to invest in the upgrade and modernization of electricity infrastructure in “last mile” communities.

In agriculture, the fund is apparently courting export-ready companies, planning mergers and acquisitions in the first half of the year. This follows MIC’s recent stake in Asian Terminals Inc., a move that ensures long-term, stable cash flow in the logistics infrastructure side.

Beyond big-ticket deals, MIC is also ready to back up-and-coming agri-businesses, giving them the capital boost they need to grow, scale and make exports shine.

Lastly, the wealth fund manager has set its sights on the mining industry to diversify its portfolio through strategies focused on responsible extraction and domestic processing.
