BIZ BUZZ: If not Stanley Ng, then who?
The winds of change are blowing through the embattled Department of Tourism, which has been in the crosshairs of the higher-ups in the Marcos administration because of its consistent failure to meet performance targets.
As head of the organization, it should therefore not come as a surprise that Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco will soon be swept away. Indeed, pundits said that her departure is not a question of if, but when.
Because of that, rumors had swirled that former Philippine Airlines president Stanley Ng would take on the mantle, a talk that the airline captain did not exactly outright deny.
But if regular Biz Buzz sources again prove to be reliable, it seems that it will not be Ng who will ultimately take over the post, but an executive from another field.
This candidate, however, has decidedly more experience in the tourism as well as hospitality sectors and has already been bringing in tourists while in his current post.
His superiors had apparently been impressed enough by the impact of his programs—executed over just a few months—that they were prompted to recommend him to replace Frasco, who has been dogged by controversy since she assumed the post in 2022.
So will she finally be let go to make way for a potentially better and more qualified official? Abangan!
