The Philippine Axa Life Center in Makati City is tapping ACEN Corp. for the supply of electricity generated from renewable energy facilities.

In a disclosure on Friday, ACEN said the 28-story office hub in the Makati central business district had tapped its retail electricity supply unit, ACEN RES, for the said shift to clean electricity.

Arturo Tanyag, president of the Philippine Axa Life Centre Condominium Corp., said pursuing the deal not only helps the firm cut its carbon footprint but also supports their tenants’ respective sustainability goals.

“As we see more established commercial hubs like this make the switch, it sends a powerful message that sustainability is now a business imperative,” said Sheila Mina, vice president at ACEN RES.

Aside from its partnership with Philippine Axa Lifestyle Center, the Ayala group unit had already sealed two deals to energize a four-star beach resort in Batangas and a Japanese logistics firm’s Philippine headquarters.

This was made possible thanks to the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). It is a government program that enables consumers with an average peak demand of 100 kilowatts to secure their power from renewable energy sources.

Citing data from the Energy Regulatory Commission, ACEN said it currently dominates the GEOP with a 57-percent market share.
