The setting sprays worth adding to your routine right now

Colleen Cosme

Setting spray is one of those steps that quietly does everything. It locks in your work, softens the finish, and in a climate like ours, it’s less of a luxury and more of a necessity. Yet not every formula earns its place on the vanity. Some sit heavy, some disappear by midday, and some smell like a chemistry experiment gone wrong.

These five, however, deliver—each for a different skin type, finish, and purpose.

This is the bottle I reach for when I want everything to look polished but not obviously set. The mist is incredibly fine and never disturbs my base, even when I am wearing fuller coverage foundation. Once it dries, there is no tackiness and no tight film. It genuinely feels like nothing on the skin.

What I notice most is the finish. It softens powder in a way that almost blurs the surface, leaving behind a natural, slightly radiant glow. Not dewy. Not shiny. Just healthy. I have worn this through humid afternoons and indoor events under bright lights, and it noticeably extends wear without dulling the complexion.

The floral scent is strong and impossible to ignore at first. It fades after a while, but if fragrance bothers you, that is something to keep in mind. But in terms of performance and longevity, it consistently delivers.

This one surprised me the first time I used it. Instead of locking everything into a fixed finish, it makes makeup look more flexible and lived in. I especially love how it melts powder into the skin. That dry, slightly dusty look disappears within seconds.

I have used it before foundation as a light prep step between powder layers when I do not want buildup and at the very end of my routine. It works beautifully each time. The hydration is noticeable, but it never turns greasy.

In terms of longevity, it is solid, though not the most heavy-duty on this list. If I am facing extreme heat or a very long day, I might reach for something stronger. But for everyday wear, it keeps my makeup looking fresh and comfortable.

I reach for this when I know I have layered on more powder than usual. It instantly takes down that flat, overly matte finish and replaces it with a subtle glow. The effect is immediate. My base looks smoother and more cohesive, almost as if it has settled into the skin.

On dry days or when my skin is feeling textured, this makes a noticeable difference. It does not reduce coverage, but it removes that makeup-sitting-on-top look. The glow it gives is controlled and glassy, not oily. If you tend to avoid powder because it emphasizes dryness, this formula changes that experience.

I will be honest. The scent hits you immediately; it is not subtle, and it smells a bit like hairspray. Once it dries, though, the hold is impressive. It sets quickly within seconds, and once it is locked in, it stays put.

When I have worn this on especially hot days, my makeup stayed matte far longer than usual. Shine was controlled, and transfer was minimal. It is the one I reach for when I need my makeup to stay exactly where I put it, for as many hours as possible.

I have heard of some people breaking out from it, so if your skin is reactive, patch test first. But in terms of keeping everything intact through humidity, it may be one of the best.

If I had to compare it, this feels similar to the L’Oréal mist in terms of hold, but noticeably gentler on the skin. It gives that same locked-in, oil-controlled finish yet it does not feel as aggressive once it sets.

I reach for this when I know shine will be an issue, but I still want my skin to feel comfortable. It sets everything evenly, keeps my T-zone matte for hours, and resists humidity without making my base look flat or overly tight. The finish is properly matte, so this is not the one for glow days.
