Still no sign of Atong Ang after cops search 20 places

Jason Sigales

Gambling tycoon Atong Ang remains at large despite multiple raids on at least 20 places where he is believed to be hiding since January, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said on Monday.

Ang is facing multiple arrest warrants over several counts of kidnapping filed against him in courts over the disappearance of at least 34 cockfighting aficionados (“sabungeros”) between 2021 and 2022.

“We have raided and checked the properties and known whereabouts of Atong Ang. We probably visited or raided not more than 20 areas not only twice but thrice,” Nartatez said at a press briefing in Camp Crame.

“In fact, we have already scoured a number of islands in the Philippines to check on the reported presence of Ang. [These] turned out to be negative,” he added.
