El Presidente charity golf, now on third year, slated at Orchard
DASMARIÑAS, Philippines—The 3rd El Presidente Cup will tee off on April 24 at The Orchard Golf & Country Club, bringing together business leaders, golf enthusiasts and sports advocates in support of youth development through sports.
The charity tournament will feature an 11 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a dinner reception and awarding ceremonies.
The event aims to raise funds and awareness for the Ramon Fernandez Sports and Youth Development Foundation, an organization founded by Philippine basketball legend Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez.
Fernandez, a four-time Most Valuable Player in the Philippine Basketball Association and widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Philippine basketball history, established the foundation as an extension of his long-standing advocacy for grassroots sports development.
After his playing career, Fernandez served as chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, where he pushed for athlete welfare programs and expanded support for grassroots sports initiatives nationwide.
The foundation continues that mission by supporting promising but underfunded young athletes. Its programs focus on providing access to training, competition opportunities and international exposure, while also helping athletes pursue education through sports scholarships.
Beyond athletic performance, the foundation promotes discipline, leadership and character development among young Filipinos who seek opportunities through sports.
Organizers say the El Presidente Cup has become one of the foundation’s flagship initiatives, using sport as a platform to mobilize support from the private sector and the broader sports community.
Among the athletes who have benefited from the foundation’s programs is golfer Charles Serdenia, who has received support through previous editions of the tournament.
Serdenia, considered one of the country’s promising young golfers, has earned a commitment to continue his career in the United States after securing a collegiate golf opportunity at Southern Utah University.
