Where to eat in La Union this summer

La Union has become the default answer to the group chat question, “Beach this weekend?” And honestly, it makes sense. It is close enough for a quick escape, easy enough for a spontaneous trip, and filled with spots that make you want to stay longer than planned.

People come for the surf and sunsets, but La Union is also one of the best places for a casual food trip. Its dining scene mixes old favorites you keep returning to with newer spots that make every visit feel a little different.

This list has both: reliable classics that still hit and fresh addresses worth checking out on your next trip. For travelers and yuppies looking for a summer getaway that feels fun, chill, and delicious, these are the spots worth adding to your itinerary.

Robia & Arby Lechon

Pangasinan National Highway, San Fernando, La Union

Not every memorable meal needs a trendy setup, and Robia & Arby Lechon proves that. If you are craving something hearty, affordable, and satisfying, this is a reliable stop.

The best order is the Combo Platter (P430), which includes their roasted chicken that’s juicy and wonderfully charred, and flavorful and tender roasted pork with the crispiest skin ever. It is generous, sulit, and easy to recommend after a long day out. They also give free soup, which makes the meal even more comforting.

Their gravy deserves a mention, too. It is savory with a slight sweetness that pairs well with both the chicken and pork, though the meats hold up even without it. They also serve other dishes turo-turo style, which is great if everyone in your group wants something different.

This was the best meal of our trip. And we visited at noon with no electricity, mind you, but still had a great time because the food was excellent and the service was effortlessly friendly and warm (no pun intended).

Halo-Halo de Iloko

San Fernando, La Union

A La Union food trip in summer would not be complete without halo-halo, and Halo-Halo de Iloko is the place to go when you want something cold, colorful, and worth the trek. Their new location behind CSI is a bit far, but the space has plenty of charm.

The must-orders are the Buko Halo-Halo and Fiesta Halo-Halo. Both come loaded with ube ice cream, ube jam, macapuno, langka, kaong, shaved ice, and milk. It is rich, layered, and extra in the best way. Each serving highlights the best of the region and makes any hot day better.

Pro tip: get extra yema. It is the kind of upgrade you will not regret.

Restaurant Una

The Salt by Wyns, San Juan, La Union

If your ideal trip includes planning at least one meal around really good food, make time for Restaurant Una. Founded by chef Joaquin Cruz of Lasa Supper Club, Una offers a refined but approachable take on Filipino food in La Union.

Their all-day breakfast menu is a highlight, especially if you love comfort food that feels familiar but more polished. The Tapsilog stands out, made with sous vide beef tapa, house-made atchara, vinegar, and garlic rice. It is classic but elevated without feeling too precious. The Beef & Mushroom Pares, made with braised beef shin and mushrooms, is another must-try if you want something rich and comforting.

The Turon Sorbetes is one of those dishes that sounds fancy but still feels fun, with house-made grilled banana ice cream, coco sugar bruleed banana, langka dayap gel, taosi caramel, and a crunchy nest of lumpia wrappers. The Una Banana Smoothie, a banana shake with miso, also sounds unusual but works.

If you want to go all in, Una also offers a tasting menu for a more curated dining experience.

Kabsat

San Juan, La Union

For a more social, barkada-friendly stop, Kabsat is always a good idea. It has that classic La Union energy: beachside, lively, and built for long meals that can easily turn into an afternoon hang.

One of the best things about dining here is the option to eat on beds by the beach, which makes the whole experience more fun. There is a P3,000 minimum consumable per bed, so it is best to come with a group and split the order.

Food-wise, the Crispy Pork Sisig is the move. It is sizzling, savory, and exactly the kind of dish you want to share after being out in the sun. Kabsat works best when you are with friends, slightly hungry, and not in a rush.

Curo

Curbside Villas, San Juan, La Union

Curo is one of those places that looks good the moment you walk in. Located on the second level of Curbside Villas, it has beautiful modern interiors that feel stylish, fresh, and easy on the eyes. The whole property has a design-forward feel, so if you like places that are both aesthetic and good, this checks both boxes.

Calamansi Lemon Slush from Curo

For drinks, try the Mango Nata or the Calamansi Lemon Slush. Both are refreshing on a hot La Union afternoon and feel more playful than your usual summer drinks.

For food, the Curbside Curo-quettes are deep-fried sweet potato balls filled with spinach and mozzarella. If you come hungry, go for the Pork, which comes with mustard sauce, apple bacon chutney, and sweet potato mash and great for sharing. Also worth noting: the Parmesan potato mash is excellent. This is a great stop if you want a meal that feels a little dressed up without losing that relaxed vacation mood.

Aureo Beach Resort

San Fernando, La Union

If you want a quieter side of La Union, Aureo Beach Resort is a great place to start. Their beachfront restaurant, Coast, is perfect for drinks by the beach, especially if your ideal summer afternoon involves good conversation, ocean views, and not too much noise.

What makes this spot stand out is the beach itself. It is clean, wide, and unobstructed, with a calmer vibe than the busier parts of La Union. The sea is usually calm, too, which adds to the relaxed feel. This is the kind of place where you can settle in with a drink, breathe a little deeper, and watch the sky slowly turn gold. If sunset is part of your vacation agenda, this area is a solid choice.

At the end of the day, La Union is one of those places where eating well feels easy. Whether you are there for a weekend reset or a spontaneous summer road trip, the food scene is part of what makes La Union so easy to love.
