SSS considers relief plans for employers, members

Zacarian Sarao

The Social Security System (SSS) is considering a moratorium on loan payments for its members, along with a condonation program for employers, as part of its relief measures amid the country’s economic challenges.

According to SSS President Robert Joseph de Claro, the measures being considered aim to provide immediate relief to members and employers struggling with financial difficulties.

“We recognize the hardships many Filipinos are enduring,” De Claro said in a statement, stressing the SSS’ commitment to protecting the welfare of its members.

“We are expediting internal reviews and consultations with stakeholders to roll out these support initiatives as swiftly as possible, while safeguarding the long-term sustainability of the SSS fund,” he added.

Furthermore, De Claro said the SSS is evaluating options for extending contribution payment deadlines for employers and individual paying members.

Digital initiatives

“[The] SSS is also actively pursuing digital initiatives to simplify administrative and implementation processes to reduce compliance burden and ensure the timely delivery of relief measures and services,” he added.

Updates on these programs would be announced through the SSS’ official channels once finalized, said the chief of the state-run social insurance agency.

The announcement comes as the country grapples with significant challenges caused by rising oil prices amid the escalating military conflict in West Asia, more commonly known as the Middle East.

Conflict in the Middle East escalated in late February after the US and Israel attacked Iran after years of confrontation over Tehran’s nuclear program and regional influence.
