Stepping into leadership with grit and grace
Walking in the shoes of Digna Elizabeth Ventura means stepping into the world empowered and empathetic.
Since 2011, Ventura has served as the president of Anchor Land Holdings Inc., steering one of Asia-Pacific region’s most aggressive developers toward strategic dominance by championing “underserved markets.”
Competence and grace
Her leadership style—a blend of competence and grace—has not only earned her a seat at the table but also wide admiration.
Industry observers have long lauded her for her contributions not only to Anchor Land but also to Philippine real estate. In 2023, she made it to the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s inaugural “Women of Power” list, honored for her capability, power and edge as a woman in leadership.
Yet, her ascent was not without hurdles. Ventura admits to being underestimated early in her career. “At the beginning, you are judged based on academic achievements, theories and experience,” she noted in a 2018 episode of “The Working Class.” “They see you as just knowing how to sell.”
Career in sales
Ventura grew up in a family that owned a restaurant and hotel, thus understanding relationship-building at an early age. Those early lessons led her to study Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Santo Tomas and eventually start a career in property sales. She achieved impressive yields and deep client relationships—things that got her noticed early on.
Ventura joined Anchor Land in 2005 as AVP for Sales and Marketing, arriving just as the firm began refreshing Manila Chinatown. By 2011, her strategic impact led to her appointment as president.
“They realized in the end [that sales] is the most important,” she recalled in the 2018 interview. “But it doesn’t take overnight to let people appreciate you.”
To assert her place, Ventura pursued further studies and built industry networks. She complemented those with her people-friendly approach. She fostered a culture of mentorship and established feedback loops, turning homebuyer clamor into architectural reality.
Handcrafted luxury experiences
“We carefully analyzed [the market’s] lifestyle and translate them into properties, offering handcrafted luxury experiences,” she told CEO Magazine in 2018. With this view, Anchor Land built a portfolio of top tier residences, workspaces, logistics facilities, hotels and commercial centers. Today, one cannot deny its influence on Chinatown, as well as Roxas Boulevard and Bay City.
Welcoming client insights also led Anchor Land to innovate its offerings. Among others, it has delivered co-living concepts and developed the “rentvestment” option, a sustainable, hassle-free investment on rental properties.
While managing those high-stakes shifts, Ventura navigated the complexities of motherhood. She views the two roles as complementary; her “nurturing” instinct as a mother directly informs her approach to management and coaching.
Heart for people
Nowadays, her coaching goes beyond Anchor Land, reflecting her heart for people. Ventura uses her platform to advocate integrity and prudence in an industry often fueled by hype.
On her social media accounts, she cautions salespeople to “speak carefully” and avoid making fantastical promises to homebuyers. She launched “In My Shoes,” a show in which she shares tips on topics such as
investing and leadership. In a personal advocacy, which she dubs “Property Decision,” she guides people —through talks and online content—toward sustainable investment.
On Instagram, she recently posted something that perfectly described her life: “Leadership [is] stewardship… Every step I take in these shoes carries that responsibility.”
