Marcos signs laws creating medical schools in 5 state universities
President Marcos has signed new laws establishing a college of medicine in five universities in the Philippines.
The President signed Republic Act Nos. 11970 and 11971, creating the Benguet State University-College of Medicine in La Trinidad, Benguet and the Southern Luzon State University-College of Medicine in Lucban, Quezon.
Mr. Marcos signed RA 11972 and 11973, which established the University of Eastern Philippines-College of Medicine in Catarman, Northern Samar, and the Visayas State University-College of Medicine in Baybay, Leyte.
He also approved RA 11973, which established Bicol University-College of Veterinary Medicine in Ligao City, Albay, “to produce a corps of professional veterinary physicians who are adept in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control of animal diseases, including terrestrial and aquatic animals.”Strengthen health care
The new laws, which were all signed on Dec. 20 would help develop a corps of professional physicians and help strengthen the country’s health-care system, the President said.
He also signed into law RA 11968, or the conversion of San Isidro Satellite campus of the Leyte Normal University in San Isidro, Leyte, to a regular campus, which will be referred to as the “LNU-San Isidro Campus” and RA No. 11969, or the Bataan Peninsula State University-Bagac Extension Campus in Bagac, Bataan, to be known as “BPSU-Bagac Campus.”
Both laws were also signed on Dec. 20.
The new measures will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation. INQ
