EV bus maker eyes PH for $25-M factory

Logan Kal-El M. Zapanta

A manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) buses is considering setting up a $25-million production facility in the Philippines, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Peza said the potential project emerged from meetings between agency officials and prospective investors during an investment mission in Taiwan earlier in March.

While the agency did not name the EV maker, Peza Director General Tereso Panga said the company currently exports its buses to China.

Panga also said Peza engaged with one of Taiwan’s largest food and beverage companies. That firm is exploring plans to locate a facility in an ecozone, as part of efforts to position the Philippines as a “plus one” destination for offshore investments.

“We are seeing strong and sustained interest from Taiwanese investors, particularly in high-growth and innovation-driven sectors,” he said.

A total of 71 Taiwanese companies are registered with Peza as of December 2025, accounting for a combined P45 billion in investments and employing over 20,000 Filipinos.
