The security of Ramil Madriaga, Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged former aide, is now more important as he is set to face the House justice committee as a possible witness in the impeachment proceedings against her.

In a statement on Wednesday, committee member Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said they expect to receive a report from the National Bureau of Investigation on the state of Madriaga, especially after the approval of a motion to strengthen the security measures for him at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, where he is detained on kidnapping with murder charges.

Aside from this, Madriaga is also expected to show up at the next impeachment hearing on April 14.

“Because there is also a request, I think it was already approved, to beef up the security of Madriaga because his participation would be consequential in the determination of the impeachment hearing. Because part of our Articles of Impeachment in the complaints are Article 3 and 4 … which contain the testimony of Madriaga,” Adiong said.

The third and fourth impeachment complaints against Duterte cite Madriaga’s claim that Duterte bribed officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) while she headed the agency.

Madriaga, in his affidavit to the Office of the Ombudsman, said that he was asked by Duterte to make cash deliveries to different people.

The money was presumed to be part of the confidential fund allocated to the Office of the Vice President and DepEd.
