Busy JPGT stretch starts at Malarayat

Inquirer Sports Staff

It will be a busy week for junior talents on all three islands as the Junior Philippine Golf Tour gets its summer swing underway starting with the Mount Malarayat stop in Batangas for the first of its Luzon tournaments.

After a long break, the likes of Patrick Tambalque and Shinichi Suzuki jumpstart their respective seasons as the players to watch in the boys’ centerpiece 15-18 division, even as twins Lisa and Mona Sarines graduate to the girls’ 15-18 after dominating the lower division for the first two years.

The Luzon and Visayas-Mindanao Series will each have six legs played across premier championship courses, providing a comprehensive test of skill, consistency and composure.

Mactan Island Golf in Cebu will host the first leg of the Visayas-Mindanao series starting on Wednesday as the circuit plays all of its legs this summer to be able to accommodate as many players as possible without disrupting their respective school schedules.

As players accumulate points across the legs, only their best three results will count toward qualification for the Elite Junior Finals set for Sept. 15 to Sept. 18 at The Country Club in Laguna. There, the top four players from each region and division will clash in the much-anticipated North vs. South Finals, with the North side to try and win the event a second straight year.
