Suspicious fuel tanker flagged in QC
Authorities have flagged a fuel tanker after arousing suspicions that it could be delivering gasoline inside a residential area in Quezon City over the weekend.
Policemen, fire personnel and barangay officials demanded documents from the owner of the 20,000-liter tanker that was parked along Scout Castor Street in Barangay Sacred Heart on Saturday, following a complaint from a neighbor.
“If they really don’t have any documents, we can still file a case against them,” Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, director of the Quezon City Police District, told the Inquirer, but did not specify the charges that may be filed against the tanker owner, who runs a metal fabrication business.
BFP standards
Silvio said a staff of the owner claimed the tanker’s fuel would be used for the consumption of their office. He added that it was so big that it alarmed the neighbor, and that it needed a permit to be inside a residential area.
“We’ve instructed our personnel not to move the tanker until its owner is able to submit the complete papers to prove compliance with BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection) standards,’’ he said.
The country has seen a series of price increases of gasoline, diesel and kerosene since the United States and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28, expanding the conflict in the Middle East and convulsing the global economy.
There have been isolated reports about a ride-hailing app driver fleeing a gas station in Quezon City without paying the bill, and some motorists filling gas in jerrycans in gas stations.
