Global debut of G50 PHEV 7-seater expands MG PH’s electrified legacy

It’s very rare that the Philippines serves as the first place on Earth where a brand-new car is launched.

But given our fast-growing appetite for fuel-efficient, electrified vehicles (especially with soaring gas prices, as of press time), MG Philippines saw the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) as the perfect venue for the global debut of the all-new G50 PHEV multi-purpose vehicle.

Although its appearance has changed little from the gasoline G50, it packs one hell of a punch – the turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve, inline-4 gasoline engine is now mated to an electric motor for a combined output of 295 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque, which are coursed through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.

MG Philippines claims a battery range of 95 kilometers and a maximum combined range of 1,415 kilometers, along with AC-charging compatibility. As the new flagship of the G50 lineup, the PHEV model gets premium features like second-row captain seats, panoramic moonroof and dual 12.3-inch displays for the gauges and the touchscreen infotainment system.

The MG G50 PHEV will be available in Pearl White, Andes Gray and Pearl Black and will be priced at P1,398,888. MG Philippines said it is offering an exclusive reservation promo – customers can secure their unit with a minimum reservation fee of just P1,000 and receive a free 7-kW wall charger upon vehicle release.

In addition, an instant P10,000 discount will apply, with a further P10,000 discount for every month of waiting should unit availability be delayed. The MG G50 PHEV is now available for reservation at all authorized MG dealerships nationwide.

Hot hatch reborn

The G50 PHEV is the latest chapter in what MG Philippines calls “The Next Wave,” which the brand defines as “a bold step toward the future of mobility defined by smarter, more efficient, and more versatile vehicles.”

This movement includes the carmaker’s first hybrid-electric vehicle sold locally, the P1,088,888 MG 3 Hybrid+ subcompact hatchback. It is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 engine mated to an electric motor for a combined output of 187 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque.

In our tests, we found that the MG 3 Hybrid+ had the acceleration and handling of an old-school hot hatchback, but not the immense thirst – we got a sensational 17 to 20 kilometers per liter in the city or the expressway.

Another big plus is the standard MG Pilot active-safety suite, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Alert.

Charged-up best-seller

The MG 3 Hybrid+ was followed by the electrified version of the ZS subcompact crossover, which is one of MG Philippines’ best-selling models.

The P1,328,888 ZS Hybrid+ combines a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine with an electric motor and a 1.83-kWh battery pack for a combined output of 193 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. Besides the energetic performance, we noted in our test how the all-new ZS improved substantially over its predecessor in terms of design and refinement.

And of course, it doesn’t hurt that we achieved an exceptional 20 to 23 kilometers per liter in the city and 17 to 20 kilometers per liter on the expressway. The ZS Hybrid+ likewise comes standard with the life-saving MG Pilot.

Electrified heavy-hitter

Finally, MG Philippines sought to do battle with the likes of the more expensive BYD Sealion 6 DM-i with the HS Hybrid+ compact crossover.

At P1,398,888, this big MG punches well above its weight, thanks to its turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine mated to an electric motor and a 1.8-kWh battery pack for a class-leading combined output of 222 horsepower and 340 Newton-meters of torque. In our tests, we found the HS Hybrid+ to be superior in terms of performance and driving enjoyment.

Fuel economy is likewise superb, achieving 15 to 18 kilometers per liter in the city and 19 to 22 kilometers per liter on the expressway. As with its electrified cousins, the HS Hybrid+ is equipped with MG Pilot for safer and more convenient journeys.

MIAS-exclusive promos

The all-new MG G50 PHEV was a true crowd favorite at MIAS 2026, with throngs of people flocking to it at the show’s opening day.

It joins the MG 3 Hybrid+, the ZS Hybrid+ and the HS Hybrid+ at the MG Pavilion, with the awesome MG Cyberster battery-electric sports car taking center stage. And for those who attend MIAS 2026 from April 9 to 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, visitors of the MG Pavilion can get event-exclusive promos on all MG models except the all-new G50 PHEV.

Customers who place a minimum reservation of just P1,000 will enjoy an additional P10,000 cash discount on top of existing promotional offers, including model-specific cash savings or low-downpayment deals. On top of that, customers will also receive a P10,000 fuel card delivered approximately two weeks after vehicle release (terms and conditions apply).

Guests can also have one-on-one consultations with MG product specialists to learn more about the brand’s latest models and technologies, while those eager to get behind the wheel can test-drive MG’s newest vehicles, including the MG G50 PHEV.

There’s also the MG car simulator, along with fun booth games for special prizes and exclusive MG merchandise giveaways, refreshments and other surprises. MG Philippines said attendees will likewise have the chance to join a raffle draw and explore special promotions available during the show.

It seems that MG Philippines read the room well in advance as the G50 PHEV adds three-row versatility to its electrified lineup.
