Barzaga posts P384,000 bail for 8 counts of cyberlibel
Cavite Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga was released on Monday night after he posted bail of P384,000 in connection with the cyberlibel complaints filed against him.
Barzaga posted bail before the Makati City Regional Trial Court’s Branch 147, Cavite police spokesperson Lt. Sarah Jane Drio told the Inquirer in a phone interview on Tuesday.
He surrendered to the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station after the Makati court issued a warrant for his arrest for eight counts of violations of Section 4(c) of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act. The bail for each count was set at P48,000.
The Cavite lawmaker was charged with cyberlibel in January by businessman Enrique Razon, Antipolo Rep. Ronaldo Puno and Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano after he claimed that Razon bribed members of the National Unity Party to reelect Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez as House Speaker under the 20th Congress.
