Coastal road project to bridge Laoang to mainland Samar
TACLOBAN CITY—A major infrastructure project linking the island municipality of Laoang to mainland Northern Samar is moving closer to reality as detailed engineering work for the Samar Pacific Coastal Road 2 (SPCR 2) officially gets under way.
Gov. Harris Ongchuan met on Wednesday with officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways-Unified Project Management Office and representatives of Kyong-Ho Engineering and Architects Co. Ltd. at the provincial capitol to discuss progress on the long-anticipated SPCR 2 project.
“This has long been our dream—to have Laoang connected to the mainland of the province—and we are very excited to see the project take off soon,” Ongchuan said in a statement.
Project consultants reported that the detailed engineering design phase began last February and is scheduled for completion by November this year.
The P7 billion project is considered a critical “missing link” in the Samar Island circumferential road network. It will connect Laoang to mainland Northern Samar and the rest of Samar Island.
Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time between key economic zones.
