DA ends temporary ban on Taiwanese pork imports
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the temporary ban on pork imports from Taiwan imposed months ago due to an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
In Department Circular No. 19 dated April 20, the DA lifted the import restriction on domestic and wild pigs and their products and by-products, including pork meat, pig skin and semen.
Citing its evaluation, the DA noted that the risk of contamination from importing these commodities from Taipei is “negligible.”
It banned pork imports from Taiwan in December last year following an ASF outbreak in October that affected pigs in Taichung City.
The Philippines imported 23,342 kilograms of meat from Taipei last year, a 94.6-percent decline from a year ago, based on the data from the Bureau of Animal Industry.
