This is the legacy of the cold war. Democracy vs Communism. Filipinos were fighting each other then for somebody’s war as proxies. Communism is dead. But today we are still fighting each other.

My son had to do a language immersion in northern Luzon as part of his course in linguistics. They informed the barangay captain and were housed and guided by tanods. But anything could have gone awry with the trigger happy military that we have. There are many courses that require immersion and I am all for it. Many people are quick to blame and brand these students as activists. But really, the government should be more careful.
