The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday said over 300,000 food items and basic needs have already been prepositioned for residents of Bicol region amid Mayon Volcano’s continuous eruptive activity.

According to a DSWD advisory, 301,311 family food packs have so far been prepositioned for Albay residents affected by the recent thick ashfall from Mayon Volcano.

A total of 27,322 ready-to-eat food boxes and 15,156 nonfood items were also already primed for release.

Apart from the essential items, the DSWD said its Bicol field office has already released a total of P11,304,150 for emergency cash transfer, as well as P28,305,450 for cash-for-work.

The DSWD assured residents and victims that no Filipino would be left behind in receiving support until they are able to recover.

All these developed after heavy ashfall blanketed several towns in Albay on Saturday, following a strombolian eruption in Mayon Volcano and the release of continuous pyroclastic density currents.
