Sara an angry laptop-hurler? ‘Don’t know how to use one’

She ”throwing” a laptop at someone in a fit of rage? She doesn’t even know how to use one.

This was how Vice President Sara Duterte dismissed rumors spreading on social media about a gadget-hurling incident where lawyer Michael Poa, the spokesperson of her defense team in the House impeachment proceedings against her, was said to be at the receiving end.

“Actually, to be honest, it’s already such a trash topic that should no longer be given any attention,” she said in a video released by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Thursday.

The video indicated she speaking to some Filipinos on May 6 at The Hague in the Netherlands, where her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte is detained and facing charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court over the killings during his so-called war on drugs.

Just for Zoom meetings

“Never in history have I hurled a laptop at a colleague, an employee, or a lawyer,” she said when asked by someone out of the frame for comment on the alleged incident which has generated memes since the weekend.

“I don’t use a laptop because I don’t know how to use a computer. For all the documents, I just rely on my office colleagues. The only time I use a laptop is during Zoom meetings, as the image looks better on Zoom,” she said.

“As I said, that rumor is a piece of trash in relation that what we talked about yesterday on what (my) enemies are doing: misinformation or disinformation that is intended to distort the story in favor of the narrative they want to come out.”

She stressed that she could not possibly be that careless about laptop she was currently using since it’s her personal property, not a government issue.

”If it gets damaged, I’m the one paying for repairs or buying a new one,” the Vice President said.

‘Didn’t want to be President’

Through press conferences and media statements, Poa has been the one answering the allegations against Duterte in the House impeachment proceedings, which the Vice President has consistently snubbed despite repeated invitations from the chamber’s justice committee.

Apart from challenging the legitimacy of the House hearings before the Supreme Court, she has dismissed the impeachment complaints as a political move to derail her declared plan to run for President in 2028.

She announced her 2028 goal on Feb. 17. In the OVP-released video on Thursday, however, Duterte put a new context to that objective.

“When it comes to politics… how do I say this? You all know that I did not want to become President. That’s why I did not run for President in 2022, especially Vice President, because I really intended to run for mayor in 2022.”

“I’m not fixated on the position because whatever the position is, if you truly want to help people, you can always do that,” she said.
