Gospel: John 20:19-23
On the evening of that day, the first day after the Sabbath, the doors were locked where the disciples were, because of their fear of the Jews. But Jesus came, and stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be with you!” Then he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples, seeing the Lord, were full of joy.
Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” After saying this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit! Those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; those whose sins you retain, they are retained.”
Lectio Divina:
The Spirit is God’s presence within us.
Read: In the Gospel, Jesus appeared to the 11 disciples after His Resurrection and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. They received the initial power of the Spirit to forgive sins. When He ascended into heaven, His disciples and other followers were not left alone, as He also sent them the Spirit of the Father and the Son. The Acts of the Apostles’ reading tells us how the first Christians received the Holy Spirit. This Spirit imparts various gifts in the Church to form one body of Christ.
Reflect: The Spirit is God’s presence within us. With Him, we are never alone in confronting our weaknesses and difficulties. As we strive to lead good and honest lives, reach out to those in need, and make a difference in our family and community, we have the Spirit of the Father with us. Sometimes, we become so absorbed with our concerns that we forget the Father’s presence. The Holy Spirit instills hope amid significant challenges, reminding us that God is always there and will fulfill His promises to us.
Pray: Holy Spirit of God, you dwell within me. Let us face this day together. Guide me, inspire me, and strengthen me.
Act: See how you can help in building up your Christian community.
