Proposed new immigration fee of P240 not yet final
The proposal to collect a P240 immigration fee from international travelers to fund the modernization of the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) security systems at the country’s main ports is “still under study” and may not be implemented at all, Palace press officer Claire Castro said on Tuesday.
She made the clarification following reports the BI would start collecting a P240 immigration fee for its long-stalled Civil Aviation and Immigration Security Services (CAISS) project.
Quoting Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, Castro said the plan to collect an immigration fee remains a “mere proposal” and that President Marcos “has not yet taken a position on the matter.”
Under the proposal, international passengers arriving in or leaving the Philippines will each be charged P240 for a one-way flight, or P480 for a round-trip flight, to fund CAISS maintenance and operations.
