BIZ BUZZ: Fresh blood enters PBSP
Two new business bigwigs are joining the boardroom of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the country’s largest business-led nongovernmental organization.
In an announcement yesterday, the PBSP said it had welcomed IBM Philippines country general manager and technology leader Leo Capinpin and Vivant Corp. president Emil Andre Garcia as its newest trustees.
Capinpin brings more than 25 years of experience at IBM, where he now leads the tech giant’s Philippine business strategy as its country general manager.
Garcia, meanwhile, will represent PBSP members in the Visayas and assume the chairship of its Visayas Regional Committee.
Apart from heading Cebu-based Vivant Corp., which has investments in energy and water, Garcia is president of Vivant Energy Corp., where he oversees investments and operations spanning conventional and renewable power generation, distribution and retail electricity.
Garcia succeeds Jose Antonio “Tonio” Aboitiz, who concludes an 18-year tenure representing Davao Light and Power Co.
Capinpin, for his part, follows Aileen Judan-Jiao, who represented IBM Philippines on the board from 2018 to 2026 and previously chaired PBSP’s Human Resources and Retirement Committee.
PBSP remains led by chair Manolito Tayag, vice chair Maria Margarita Torres of McDonald’s Philippines, treasurer Rossana Fajardo of SGV & Co. and corporate secretary Carolina Racelis, also of SGV.
PLDT Inc. chair Manuel V. Pangilinan serves as chairman emeritus.
