BIZ BUZZ: Alphaland plays it safe in Benguet
Alphaland Corp. is temporarily closing its Baguio Mountain Lodges (ABML) in Itogon, Benguet, after prolonged rains triggered landslides within portions of the property and nearby communities.
The closure covers all homeowners and visitors until further notice, allowing response teams to clear debris and assess affected areas.
Alphaland said continuing rainfall and unstable ground conditions made the restriction necessary.
No casualties have been reported within ABML or the surrounding affected barangays based on information available to the company.
Alphaland said it has tapped independent engineering specialists to inspect roads, slopes, structures and other infrastructure within the property.
Their findings will determine the stabilization, repair and restoration work needed—and ultimately when ABML can safely reopen.
“Our neighbors in Itogon are going through a very difficult time, and we are doing what we can alongside the local government to help,” Alphaland president Dennis Valdes said.
Alphaland said it’s coordinating with local authorities to assist affected families in the surrounding communities and to support ongoing relief and safety efforts.
Benguet has been placed under a state of calamity following a month of sustained rainfall that damaged communities and infrastructure across the province.
Homeowners will be directly notified once authorities and specialists determine that access to ABML can safely resume.
