ORIGIN
OOTD, or “Outfit of the Day,” is a popular social media trend, particularly on Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest, in which individuals share photos or videos of their attire, including accessories and shoes, for a specific day.
It originated in the early blogging era, when fashion bloggers or enthusiasts would share daily outfits on their personal sites.
Soon after, the trend exploded on Instagram and Pinterest as stylish individuals began showcasing their daily looks to express personal style, share fashion ideas, and inspire others.
The hashtag first appeared on Twitter in 2009 and became popular in 2012 (Dictionary.com).
To create an OOTD post, an individual photographs or records their outfit, adds a caption or description, and shares it using the hashtag #OOTD.
Sometimes, the individual shares where he or she purchased the clothing items and indicates the brand names. In other occasions, the post notes prices and ways to replicate the look or find similar pieces.
OOTD posts allow users to exchange fashion inspiration, discover brands, and explore different ways of styling clothing.
EXAMPLES
“My brother let me pick out his OOTD! Did I do a great job?”
