Cowed and cowardice

Bambina Olivares

For all their alpha male posturing, deep down, most white men are merely beta cucks. At least that’s what the events of the past couple of weeks seem to suggest.

Ed Sheeran, a British singer-songwriter who has enjoyed massive success creating elevator music for those who love elevator music, has cultivated—disingenuously, if you ask me—a kind of everyman persona. The ginger-haired pop artist is not exactly handsome, conventionally or otherwise; in fact, he looks, well, a bit dorky, like someone who’s an alien being lost in a science fiction movie, who lumbers along through life sheepishly, like he’s apologetic for taking up space.

Turns out, the singer now worth at least $400 million came from means, despite those early photos of him busking around London. His affluent parents sent him to private school in Halifax whose tuition was reportedly £31,500 a year.

Turns out, being raised in bourgeois capitalist comfort really didn’t bless him with much of a spine—or balls. For when push came to shove, three years into a genocide, he dumped his friend of 13 years, the rapper Macklemore, and bent over backwards for the billionaire class after being basically forced to choose between integrity and money.

So the rich everyman wanted ever more, and beta cucked himself for Robert Kraft, a wealthy but totally unsavory character who was buddies with Jeffrey Epstein and was once charged for soliciting prostitution. Kraft, a beta cuck for Israel, told Sheeran that if Macklemore, who has loudly and consistently used his platform to call for a free Palestine and an end to genocide, opened for him again at the next concert date, which was scheduled to take place at a stadium owned by Kraft, Macklemore would not be allowed inside. What’s more, Kraft rounded up his fellow NFL stadium-owner buddies, who threatened to do the same.

Picking sides

Despite his protestations that he was not a performer who pandered to politics, Sheeran picked a side, knowingly or not. He picked the side of genocide. He cared only for the children who watched his concerts, not the children in Gaza unable to even experience a concert because they were being ripped to shreds by the American-made drones and missiles rained upon them by the Israeli occupation army.

What ensued was the battle for narrative control, with all sides issuing statements. Macklemore’s statement centered on Palestinians, and he refused to be portrayed—unlike most white people—as the victim in this scenario, even if his erstwhile friend had just fired him, and reminded the public that Palestinian children were still being slaughtered every day in Gaza despite a so-called ceasefire. The fight for a free Palestine, a free Sudan, a free Congo, and a free Iran was profoundly more important than the money he stood to lose.

Sheeran, well, talk about pop goes the weasel. He revealed himself to be nothing more than an absolute pussy with no principles, and even turned off the comments on his Instagram post. His silence, he insisted, did not mean complicity.

But yes, it does, Ed, and it also means cowardice. You will be remembered for that. Turns out, the shape of you is an invertebrate wuss.

Ah, and the billionaire “builder of bridges,” Kraft, with his murky tea of a statement, said nothing, really, but confirmed what we all knew: that he’s a fascist oligarch who would rather suppress free speech and artistic expression than allow dissent. And who would rather fudge around the truth than name the perpetrator outright.

Voices that won’t be silenced

Neither Sheeran nor Kraft—and I suspect even Macklemore—could have expected what happened next. Talk about a fallout boy: one after another, Sheeran’s backing band and all support acts, announced that despite The Loop tour being the gig of a lifetime, they could not in good conscience be party to such blatant repression of artistic freedom. And of course, they dropped out of the tour in solidarity with Palestine.

Oh, and that other white man, Pink, who started this whole public persecution of Macklemore and perpetuated yet another cycle of self-victimization: Another beta cuck for the Zionists who cares more about her hurt feelings than actual children being sniped in the head. If God really were a DJ, they would just permanently ban her music.

Macklemore, with support from Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga, re-energized a mass movement and amplified the volume of the voices around the world fighting against oppression and injustice. As Rowe wrote on Instagram: “I cannot stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up against Israeli genocide and who highlight the savage murder of children. I would lose all respect for myself to carry on as normal.”

The ceiling can’t hold us. We will not be cowed.
