Lili Reinhart masters the rom-com reference
Lili Reinhart’s “Riverdale” days are long gone, but luckily we haven’t seen the last of her yet. Since wrapping up the CW show that catapulted her to fame, Reinhart has starred alongside Victoria Pedretti, Lola Tung, and Alexandra Shipp in the horror comedy “Forbidden Fruits.”
Now, she is starring opposite Tom Bateman in a Star Wars fanfiction turned bestselling romance novel, “The Love Hypothesis.” In a stroke of genius, she has managed to generate rom-com buzz without resorting to fake dating rumors. Ripping a page off Zendaya’s playbook, Reinhart opts for fashion publicity.
With the help of her stylist Ib Abdel Nasser, the American actress raided the closets of the rom-com heroines of the late 90s and early 2000s. She took to the streets to sport various style references in a skillful maneuver that paid homage to rom-com veterans while ushering in a new era.
Channeling Kate Hudson in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”
You’d be hard-pressed to forget this sunshine gown worn by Kate Hudson as Andie Anderson in the classic 2003 rom-com, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” It’s a stunning dress from the front, but it’s always the back that leaves onlookers in awe. Just ask Matthew McConaughey.
The original dress worn in the film was a custom Carolina Herrera collaboration with the costume designer Karen Patch, but Nasser was able to recreate the look with a replica from Caché.
A fashion fairytale inspired by Drew Barrymore
Reinhart’s next look was a custom Rodarte gown with grey and silver beaded tulle. It was accented with matching arm pieces for the off-shoulder effect—reminiscent of Drew Barrymore’s “Ever After” dress.
It was one of Reinhart’s most regal looks, as perhaps nothing is more classic or iconic than Barrymore’s as Danielle de Barbarac in her rendition of the Cinderella story.
The emerald gown from “Atonement”
After hitting her mark wearing Hudson’s yellow dress, Reinhart was photographed in yet another bare-back gown. This time in a striking earth tone. Backless gowns truly are the key to costume success, as this look will go down as one of the most well-remembered dresses in film history.
Though it’s not quite the original dress Keira Knightley wore in the iconic library scene, Nasser preserved its classic elements in a custom Tory Burch. They chose a twisted, draped, and hand-knotted dress in peridot, a slightly lighter gemstone hue.
Her own take on “13 Going on 30”
Reinhart took a stroll down the streets of New York to flaunt her Jennifer Garner-inspired look from the early 2000s film, “13 Going on 30.” The coat she wore is the exact coat Garner’s character Jenna Rink hastily threw on the day she, a 13-year-old girl, hilariously woke up in a 30-year-old’s body.
Reinhart joins Ariana Grande—who channeled Garner in both her music video for “Thank U, Next” and an appearance on “The Voice”—as a fan of the film’s wardrobe, as Reinhart had the coat on loan from Nanette Lepore. Unlike Jenna Rink, Reinhart grazed the streets with ease in a black-laced slip.

Reinhart proved she is the ultimate It-girl wearing a dress from Hervé Léger honoring Sandra Bullock in “Miss Congeniality.” Luckily for her, she didn’t need to go undercover because it would be impossible not to recognize her in this skin-tight lilac look.
Styled with a pair of sunglasses and matching pumps, Reinhart came prepared to look as if she walked straight out of a beauty pageant—if, of course, beauty pageants let you show off your arm tattoos.
Paying homage to her longtime lookalike
Since becoming famous, Reinhart has been well aware that her appearance is reminiscent of the late Brittany Murphy.
During this press tour, she wholeheartedly embraced the comparison by wearing an archival dress from the 2002 Spring/Summer collection of Blumarine. It’s the same dress worn by Murphy in the 2003 cult classic “Uptown Girls,” where Murphy plays the nanny to an adorable hypochondriac in the form of then eight-year-old Dakota Fanning.
The dress was supplied by Rebe Archive and has been a dream dress of Reinhart’s since she was seven years old. As she continues to promote “The Love Hypothesis,” she is not only turning her dreams into a reality, but making good on the rom-com’s essential promise: allowing audiences to live vicariously through her.
