Lower water pressure in Metro faucets in April

While residents in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces will not experience any water interruption during the summer months, the water pressure in faucets will be reduced to better manage supply, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said on Tuesday.

During the government TV program “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon,” MWSS spokesperson Patrick Dizon said the agency, along with water concessionaires Manila Water Co. Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc., would be implementing the measure even though water allocation for domestic use would be maintained in April.

Dizon clarified that there would be no reduction in supply with the pressure coming from faucets to be reduced during off-peak hours between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

The National Water Resources Board is managing raw water allocation from Angat Dam, which supplies around 90 percent of Metro Manila’s requirements. The water supply is then split between Manila Water and Maynilad.

“The allocation of 50 cubic meters per second for the month of April will be maintained,” Dizon said.

“For now, we thought about having pressure management measures to manage the raw water coming from Angat Dam,” he added.

Dizon explained that by implementing this measure, the drastic decline in the dam’s water level would be addressed. “This way, we can reduce what we call system losses and also reduce consumer consumption,” he said. INQ
