Alternergy wind project allowed grid linkup

Alternergy Holdings Corp. and National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) have signed an accord that would connect the former’s wind power project in Quezon province to the grid.

The interconnection agreement signed between Alternergy through its subsidiary Alabat Wind Power Corp. (AWPC) and NGCP would pave the way for the supply of cleaner energy through the 69-kilovolt Hondagua transmission line in Lopez town.

“NGCP has provided the Alabat Wind Power Project with an interconnection scheme that is most efficient and responsive to ensure viability and timely completion,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said.

“As the transmission network provider and system operator, NGCP strives to assist power project developers to bring the needed energy infrastructures that will bring forth socioeconomic benefits to the country and help accelerate [the] energy transition goal of the government,” NGCP president and CEO Anthony Almeda said.

He noted the NGCP, which operates the country’s transmission backbone, understood the challenges encountered by renewable energy developers and was committed to ensuring the delivery of capacity from the Alabat Wind Power Project “within the committed timeline.”

Magbanua said the accord served as a “huge breakthrough” for the planned wind facility to meet its commitment to provide energy through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) second Green Energy Auction Program.
