PLDT’s broadband revenues rev up by 9%

The home broadband unit of telecommunications giant PLDT Inc. saw its fiber-only revenues grow by 9 percent last year as the subsidiary rode on its “dominant” market share.

Revenues of PLDT Home’s fiber internet business stood at P53 billion, accounting for 50.6 percent of total industry revenues, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

Market share was at 50 percent, up from around 40 percent as more customers sought faster internet speeds.

According to PLDT Home, its fiber customer base grew to 3.2 million from 2.9 million in 2022.

“We plan on leveraging our multiple technologies and tailor-fitted packages to enable connectivity to every home,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, senior vice president and head of consumer business at PLDT Home.

De la Cruz added that they sought to further grow their fiber footprint this year to reach more households by pushing connectivity in greenfield, or undeveloped, areas.

The Manuel Pangilinan-led firm earlier announced that it would launch within the year its premium fiber internet offering to cater to high-end customers and meet growing demand for data services.

Prices of these so-called Gigabit Fiber subscription plans would range from P7,499 to P49,999 a month for speeds of 1 gigabit per second to 10 Gbps, the company said.

Currently, the company’s fiber plans cost from P1,699 to P9,499 a month, with speeds ranging from 200 megabits per second to 1,000 Mbps.

“We want to continue to enable our customers to experience a new era of connectivity with technologies that provide them with an unmatched digital experience and speeds at home,” De la Cruz said.
