Pokwang’s ex-partner deported, barred from reentry

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday that it deported American national Lee O’Brian, the former partner of comedian Marietta Subong, more known as Pokwang.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that O’Brian boarded a Philippine Airlines flight bound for San Francisco on Monday after the bureau confirmed he had no pending local case.

His deportation was based on a complaint filed by Subong last year in which she claimed he worked for different production companies without the required labor and immigration permits.

The BI then ordered O’Brian’s deportation in December after it found he violated the conditions of his stay in the Philippines. Although he filed an appeal, it was denied and his name, according to the BI, was placed on the bureau’s blacklist, barring him from returning to the country. —JANE BAUTISTA
