2Go opens two new logistics hubs in Mindanao
Cargo delivery service provider 2GO has opened logistics hubs in General Santos City and Davao, beefing up its operations in Mindanao amid an increasing demand for shipping services.
The SM Group unit, in a statement on Tuesday, said it would provide shared cargo service in the cities’ major ports, which is seen to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
2GO said the hubs would be able to accept cargo for delivery up to 18 hours before vessel departure. This service is expected to cater to shipments of vegetables, fruits and other fresh produce.
“These new hubs will enable MSMEs in Davao, GenSan, and neighboring municipalities to ship their products widely, ensuring that fresh produce and other time-sensitive goods reach their destinations swiftly and efficiently,” 2GO forwarding business unit head Faye Alonzo said.
The shared cargo service, or less-than-container load shipment, enables enterprises to ship cargo in smaller quantities as they will not need to fill up an entire container. As a result, the logistics service provider said this would reduce shipment costs and support efficient inventory management, especially for smaller businesses.
Data from the Philippine Ports Authority showed cargo throughput grew by about 5 percent to 271.97 million metric tons (MT) last year from 259.14 million MT in 2022, surpassing the prepandemic volume of 265.88 million MT.
The growth in e-commerce has prompted the need for last-mile delivery and warehousing services.
