Alternergy gets NGCP ok for 5 green projects
Renewable energy pioneer Alternergy Holdings Corp. has cleared a key regulatory hurdle for its next wave of clean power developments after securing approval from the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
The clearance covers the System Impact Study (SIS) of all five projects it won under the Green Energy Auction 4 (GEA 4) program of the Department of Energy (DOE).
In a statement Thursday, Alternergy said its solar and wind subsidiaries had completed the SIS requirements for the new projects, paving the way for the company to advance engineering and development activities.
“The NGCP approval of the SIS is a significant step to move our projects forward. It confirms the grid’s capability and readiness to accommodate and integrate our projects into the system,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said.
“We appreciate NGCP’s continued support,” he added.
The SIS clears the technical feasibility of connecting new power plants to the grid. It is also a critical component of post-auction documentation required by the DOE.
“With the NGCP SIS approvals, we are pleased to note that we have successfully submitted to the DOE the post-auction requirements,” Magbanua said. “We are excited to hit the ground running and start the development works.”
Alternergy’s successful GEA 4 bids represent as much as 500 megawatts (MW) of fresh capacity across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
These include the Liberty Solar Floating Projects Phases A and B in Luzon, the Kalandagan Solar Power Project paired with a battery energy storage system in Mindanao and two wind developments—the Tayabas North Wind Energy Project in Luzon and the Alegria Wind Power Project in the Visayas.
