Alternergy links 128-MW wind park to grid
Alternergy Holdings Corp. has successfully powered on the transmission infrastructure for its 128-megawatt (MW) Tanay wind project in Rizal province, bringing the renewable energy project closer to commercial operations.
In a disclosure on Thursday, the listed renewable energy developer said it had energized the project’s 500-kilovolt substation and transmission facilities, which connect the wind park to the national transmission network and allow electricity to be safely delivered to the Luzon grid.
The facility is the largest substation the company has built so far.
Alternergy said this marks a critical commissioning milestone as it confirms that the project’s electrical systems are ready for integrated testing before commercial operations begin.
It also signals the start of pre-commissioning activities that would pave the way for revenue generation once the wind farm starts operating.
“This brings us another step closer to delivering clean, reliable energy to Filipino consumers,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said in the disclosure.
Magbanua added that the project is the first wind development energized under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program II, which awarded the project in 2023.
Once fully operational, the 128-MW wind park is expected to generate about 283.5 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually.
Alternergy said this would be enough to supply around 118,125 households while avoiding an estimated 197,780 metric tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
