Ayala’s ACEN eyes add’l 2,000 MW in Australia

Sydney, Australia—ACEN Corp., the listed energy arm of the Ayala group, is looking at expanding its footprint in the Australian market with more than 2,000 megawatts of peak generating capacity in the pipeline.
Jose Maria Zabaleta, executive chair of ACEN Australia, said that the group is gearing up to further advance its game in this market with investments in wind, solar, pumped hydro and battery energy storage systems (BESS) over the next three years.
“This positions ACEN to help achieve Australia’s energy transition objectives, and reflects our long-term goals and commitments,” he told visiting Filipino journalists on Wednesday.
The group announced three projects that are seen to jack up its portfolio.
The Valley of the Winds with 900 MW will rise within three clusters—Mount Hope, Girragulang Road and Leadville.
It is designed to have 131 wind turbines, with the generated power injected into the National Electricity Market.
The 780-MW Birriwa Solar project, meanwhile, has also secured the go-ahead from Australia’s Independent Planning Commission.
ACEN noted that it is just finalizing some details before launching ground works. The firm is also set to equip the solar facility with a 1,200-megawatt-hour BESS.
