The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has secured four business deals with Australian firms during one of the side events as part of President Marcos’ recent trip to Australia.

The BCDA said on Monday that these deals, which are part of the $1.53 billion worth of investments from the Australia trip, are in the field of smart city solutions. These are aimed at making the Philippine economy “more agile,” as well as to create more jobs.

Going into specifics, the BCDA said it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kaizen ANZ Pty Ltd for the development, design, construction, commissioning, and funding of a tier-3 data center at the Poro Point Freeport Zone in the province of La Union.

The BCDA also inked an MOU with the St. Battalion GigaFactory Inc., with plans on expanding their next-generation battery manufacturing operations in the Philippines.

It said this expansion would include the establishment of at least four more ready-built factories in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac., a venture which is expected to create 500 new jobs.

Thirdly, the BCDA also signed an MOU with the Energy Decarb Pty Ltd to deploy decarbonization solutions in New Clark City and other BCDA properties.
