BIZ BUZZ: A toast to Tanduay

Logan Kal-El M. Zapanta

Philippine spirits maker Tanduay Distillers Inc. is opening the year by retracing its Spanish roots through a partnership with one of Europe’s most established brandy producers.

This week, Tanduay formally launches its partnership with Spain’s Familia Torres, bringing the 156-year-old Barcelona-based spirits brand to the Philippine market.

Familia Torres traces its heritage to winemaking, but expanded into brandy production in 1928, eventually becoming one of the world’s leading sellers of the spirit. In 2025, it was named the world’s top-selling brandy for the sixth consecutive year.

Its portfolio has earned consistent global recognition, with Jaime I being named Best Brandy in 2015 while Torres 15 took the Best Solera Brandy in 2017.

For its part, Tanduay remains the world’s leading seller of rum by volume, having sold 23.4 million cases in 2024. Partnering with Familia Torres supports the company’s push beyond traditional markets, and strengthens the company’s ties with Europe.

This partnership links two companies that dominate their respective categories on the global stage. It follows a 2022 distribution deal for Scottish Legacy Blended Scotch Whisky, produced by Quality Spirits International.
