BIZ BUZZ: ALI takes a 117-step green leap
Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) is moving up the global sustainability ranks—and by quite a leap.
The property giant jumped 117 spots to rank 369th in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026, marking its second consecutive appearance on the list.
ALI was also the only Philippine real estate developer included this year, with Globe Telecom joining it as the only other Philippine company recognized.
The ranking, developed with data firm Statista, assessed more than 5,000 major companies before narrowing the field to 750.
Companies were measured on more than 20 data points covering sustainability practices, transparency and environmental and social performance.
ALI has been putting some numbers behind its green push.
As of end-2025, 98 percent of the gross leasable area across its malls, offices and hotels was powered by renewable electricity or supported by renewable energy certificates, up from 96 percent a year earlier.
It also diverted 44 percent of waste from its operations and construction activities away from landfills last year.
Meanwhile, more than 1.5 million square meters of its commercial office space has secured EDGE Zero Carbon certification.
The sustainability drive is also opening financing doors. In 2025, ALI secured a P12.87-billion sustainability-linked loan from the International Finance Corp. and raised P15 billion through a sustainability-linked bond.
