BIZ BUZZ: Another win for Chinabank
Corporate awards often end up as little more than framed certificates in the executive suite. But in the banking world, recognition from investors tends to carry a bit more weight.
Sy-led China Banking Corp. is celebrating after its chief finance officer (CFO), Patrick Cheng, was named among the Philippines’ best CFOs in Extel’s 2026 Asia (ex-Japan/ANZ) Executive Team Survey. The ranking was based on the views of more than 5,500 investment professionals, including portfolio managers and analysts who closely track Asian capital markets.
For listed firms, particularly banks, a CFO’s reputation matters. Investors scrutinize everything from financial disclosures and capital allocation decisions to how management communicates with the market. Extel’s survey measures exactly those traits, making the recognition less about popularity and more about credibility.
The latest nod also suggests Chinabank continues to resonate with the investment community. Last year, the bank scored strongly in categories covering investor relations, board leadership and finance management. This year’s recognition for Cheng adds another feather to the cap.
For a bank approaching its 106th year, maintaining investor confidence may be just as important as growing loans and deposits. Judging by the latest survey results, Chinabank appears to be checking both boxes.
