BIZ BUZZ: Ayala shuffles finance watchdog roles

Emmanuel John Abris

Something quietly shifted inside the corridors of Ayala Corp.—not a boardroom drama, but a reshuffle that places two governance veterans in temporary but crucial posts.

The conglomerate disclosed that its board appointed Catherine H. Ang, the company’s longtime chief audit executive, as acting comptroller, effective immediately.

The move came after Josephine G. de Asis, who had been serving as Ayala’s comptroller, was “unable to carry out the duties of the position at this time,” prompting the board to assign an interim replacement.

Ang is hardly a newcomer to Ayala’s governance machinery. A managing director and chief audit executive since July 2013, she first joined the conglomerate in 2012 to head risk management and sustainability. Over the years, she has also served in audit and risk oversight roles across several Ayala-related entities, including AC Energy and Infrastructure Corporation, AC Logistics Holdings Corporation and Light Rail Manila Corporation.

A certified public accountant, Ang previously worked as vice president and chief audit executive of Globe Telecom, and earlier held roles in risk management and technology services with PwC Singapore and SGV & Co.

Her shift to the comptroller role triggered another change in Ayala’s internal control structure. The board also appointed Roxanne Kate L. Petilla, a senior internal audit manager, as acting chief audit executive.

Petilla joined Ayala in 2014 and previously worked with PwC Philippines and the Manila Teachers’ Savings and Loan Association. She also serves as the internal audit head of LiveIt Investments Ltd. and its subsidiaries, while actively participating in the Institute of Internal Auditors Philippines, where she once chaired its technology committee.
