BIZ BUZZ: BPI @ 175: TG’s 50-M dream

Emmanuel John Abris

As Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) celebrates its 175th year, president and CEO TG Limcaoco says the legacy he hopes to leave isn’t just record earnings—but a bank that can thrive long after his tenure.

For Limcaoco, success means building a united organization where every employee embraces BPI’s mission of helping “build a better Philippines, one family, one community at a time.”

His long-term vision remains ambitious: Grow BPI’s customer base to 50 million from just 8 million in 2021.

“Only then, when we have about half the adult population with BPI, can we truly say we are building a better Philippines,” he said, adding that every “unibanker” has rallied behind the same goal.

After 175 years in business, BPI appears to be measuring its next chapter not just by profits, but by how many Filipinos it can bring into the formal financial system.
