BIZ BUZZ: Cabinet ‘rigodon’ over?
One would think that we’ve seen the last of the changes in the Cabinet following the transfer of familiar names from their old positions to new ones, or in the case of Vince Dizon, a move back to where he came from.
After all, the Marcos administration has less than two years left before it bids adieu and angry, weary and impatient Filipinos are demanding concrete actions that will ease their daily burden, not more platitudes.
But word has it that even if there is precious time left and 2028 elections on the horizon, the current secretaries are not exactly feeling secure in their positions.
This explains a sudden need to build up their profile by making new policy announcements that they hope would play to the crowd and thus prevent them from leaving.
If those are enough to see them through until the end of the Marcos administration remains to be seen.
But what is sure is that some of those announcements that will soon come from the key departments will benefit some more than others.
So don’t be surprised if the next few months will see the awarding of some stalled but juicy government contracts worth billions of pesos to a select few, courtesy of some high-ranking officials with less-than-noble intentions.
