BIZ BUZZ: Cabinet rigodon still on?

Tina Arceo-Dumlao

Palace press officer Claire Castro categorically said last week that “there will no longer be any rigodon” or revamp in the Cabinet of President Marcos.

And yet, talks about impending changes refuse to die down. And as we all know, where there is a lot of smoke, there is definitely a raging fire.

We’ve already talked about the Department of Tourism and Biz Buzz sources said that times could also be a-changin’ at the Department of Transportation (DOTr), currently headed by Giovanni Lopez.

Lopez was elevated to the post of acting secretary as former DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon was moved to the Department of Public Works and Highways in September last year, when the flood control scandal began to ensnare those in highest echelons of power.

Those in the know said that many names were being considered to potentially take over the powerful post, including that of an old hand in the transportation and communication sector.

Nothing is final, however, as power brokers are busy throwing their own favorite names in the ring.

But what appears sure is that despite claims to the contrary, a rigodon remains in the cards, especially as the Marcos administration urgently needs to inject some life back into the sluggish economy as it begins the last years of its term.
