BIZ BUZZ: Coming back in 2026: BSP coin deposit machines
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is set to bring back its popular coin deposit machines next year, expanding beyond malls in the Greater Manila Area to reach other parts of the archipelago.
BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat revealed the plans during a central banking symposium in Bohol last Sunday, noting that procurement of additional machines is underway.
The move will double the fleet from 25 to 50 units.
The machines, which were temporarily suspended on June 17 for a review of operations, are expected to go online by mid-next year. “Maybe the existing machines, we can already give to other provinces, like Cebu or Pampanga, because they are looking for them,” Romulo-Puyat said. “We will continue, of course, in Metro Manila. But then we want to visit Visayas and Mindanao.”
The coin deposit program has already processed P1.308 billion in coins—over 326 million pieces—through nearly 300,000 transactions as of Feb. 15.
A cornerstone of the BSP’s coin recirculation strategy, the machines help put idle coins back into circulation, meeting the country’s currency needs while reducing production costs for new coins.
