BIZ BUZZ: EastWest–UA&P to launch research partnership

Emmanuel John Abris

Clients of East West Banking Corp. will soon get a regular briefing on the forces shaping the economy.

The Gotianun family-led bank has partnered with the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) to launch “Economic Watch,” a weekly newsletter meant to help clients track economic shifts and make better financial decisions.

Expect digestible explanations on topics that usually dominate boardroom discussions—from inflation and interest rates to global geopolitical risks.

But wait, isn’t this similar to “The Market Call,” the monthly publication jointly published by UA&P and First Metro Investments Corp.? The partnership ended two years ago, industry sources told Biz Buzz. Thus, UA&P is free to team up with another bank.

For UA&P, the tie-up extends its long-standing role as an economic think tank.

University president John Philip Yeung noted that the partnership allows academic research and analysis to reach businesses and investors who need practical strategies, not just theory.
