BIZ BUZZ: Ex-RCBC chief takes practice to Mapua
Former Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) president Eugene Acevedo is charting a fresh path—this time, in the halls of academia.
Acevedo announced that he has been appointed advisory dean and professor of practice at the business schools of Mapua University, a move that signals his shift from corporate leadership to shaping future executives.
He said he’s “delighted” to take on the role and plans to approach it with “much enthusiasm.”
“What excites me is the responsibility. My work will focus on strengthening practice-based leadership education, sharpening strategic thinking and preparing students to operate in environments where clarity is scarce and pressure is constant,” Acevedo said.
His new academic base, the Mapua E.T. Yuchengco School of Business, collaborates with Arizona State University, which he noted is currently recognized as the most innovative university in the United States. That global linkage, it seems, sets the stage for ambitions that stretch well beyond local borders.
But Acevedo made clear he is not there to dwell on theory. In his words, the mission is simple: prepare students for the real world, not its textbook version.
Acevedo is also looking forward to working with fellow faculty, including Mapua dean Donn Enrique Moreno, as they aim to build a program that is modern, rigorous and globally competitive. Just as important, he said, is engaging with students eager to test themselves in a more demanding learning environment.
His move also carries a familiar institutional link. Mapua, he noted, is a sister organization of Yuchengco-led bank RCBC, bringing Acevedo into an academic setting that sits close to his corporate roots—while giving him a new platform to pass on hard-earned lessons from the front lines of leadership.
