BIZ BUZZ: Exec hops from DPWH to DA

Jordeene B. Lagare

A former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary who resigned amid the flood control controversy is back in government service.

Arrey Perez—who briefly served at the DPWH and before that, as president of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.—is now the new Department of Agriculture undersecretary for agro-marine industrial systems, based on DA Special Order No. 376.

In less than two years, Perez hopped from one post to another three times.

He spent just five months as president of Metro Pacific Tollways under the MVP Group.

As DPWH undersecretary for operations, he oversaw convergence projects and technical services. However, it lasted barely a month.

In October, Perez resigned to give way to an investigation on alleged ties to contractors.

However, Perez served the longest at the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), working alongside DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon at one point.

A licensed real estate broker and certified public accountant, he previously worked at the Commission on Audit and the local government of Sta. Maria in Ilocos Sur.

Things are already piling up at the DA—from expanding the subsidized rice sale to taking on farm-to-market road projects and providing fuel subsidies to more farmers and fishers.

The agency could indeed use an extra hand, assuming he sticks around longer this time around.
